English Amnesty is a specialist return-to-English immersion course for adults who already have English but have become rusty, hesitant or disconnected from using it.
Experience English: Amnesty Edition is a specialist adaptation of our core Experience English immersion holiday in Scotland.
Both holidays are for adults who already have English, and both use Scotland, travel, culture, food, nature and shared experiences as the setting for specialist English support. The difference is who they are designed for.
Our main Experience English holiday is for people who have English and want more opportunities to use it. English Amnesty is for people who have English but don't currently feel comfortable using it.
Perhaps your English feels rusty. You may understand far more than you feel able to say. You might need more time to think before answering, worry about making mistakes or avoid situations where you might be expected to speak. You don't need an easier course. You need a different way back into the English you already have.
English Amnesty adapts the Experience English model specifically for this.
The course runs from Friday to Friday — not Monday to Friday. You arrive on Friday and spend the following week surrounded by English through Scottish culture, travel, food, nature, books, music and shared experiences.
Groups are very small, with a maximum of three guests. Ruth builds each week around the people taking part, the season, local opportunities and the interests that emerge.
As with our main Experience English holiday, Scotland is a substantial part of the programme. You might enjoy guided wildlife encounters; explore castles, museums, historic libraries and other places rich in Scottish stories; discover food, agriculture, conservation, art or traditional crafts; listen to music; walk in the landscape; cook and eat together; or take part in workshops and seasonal activities.
What changes is the language pace.
On our main Experience English holiday, Ruth actively creates and supports opportunities for guests to use their English with the people and places around them. On English Amnesty, there is less pressure to activate your English. Experiences are rich with English to hear, read and absorb, and there is plenty to talk about if you feel like it, but you won't constantly be put on the spot or expected to turn every encounter into speaking practice.
We also spend more time at the Blue Noun Hub, where activities such as cooking, reading, journalling, making things, music and workshops allow you to be around English while something else occupies your attention.
Ruth is an experienced English teacher, but she won't start actively working on your English until you tell her you're ready. When you want more active support, specialist coaching, feedback and language work are there for you.
We don't reduce the experience to make English Amnesty gentler. We reduce the pressure surrounding the English.

Most of our exploring happens in Perthshire, where Blue Noun is based, with occasional trips further afield in Scotland when an event, opportunity or particular interest is worth travelling for. We use slow-travel principles deliberately, giving experiences time to build rather than rushing between tourist destinations.
At the end of your holiday, Review & Revive helps you look at what you've noticed about your English and decide what comes next. Everyone leaves with a practical, personalised plan for continuing with their English.
English Amnesty is not a beginner course or a lower-level version of Experience English. It is a specialist adaptation for adults whose barrier is not simply how much English they know, but how it feels to use it.
Before booking, a Zoom conversation with Ruth is required. This is not a language test or formal level assessment. It is an informal conversation to make sure English Amnesty is the right holiday choice for you, and that the particular support and experience it offers match what you need.
